"Based on the 2008 Glass Ceiling Study, it is clear that women are significantly underrepresented in both the C-Suites and Corporate Boardrooms of Florida corporations. To Deconstruct the Florida Glass Ceiling, it will require the efforts of the entire Community of Florida. As a community, we have both the opportunity and the responsibility to challenge the current status quo of excluding women from leadership roles. In order for Florida to maximize its human capital, women must be included at all levels. This can only be done when corporate leaders remove “artificial barriers” that limit the opportunities for women to advance. The Florida Glass Ceiling Summit is our first step at initiating change. Please come out and support our efforts as we seek to hold corporate leaders accountable.”

Putting Diversity into the Leadership Pipeline

Presenter: Dr. Rita Boags - We know that ceilings on the progress of women and minorities have been documented since the 1994 Glass Ceiling Commission Report. Are these ceilings built into organizational structures, a by-product of outmoded cultural norms, or intentional? As more professional women enter into the workplace and expect to advance on their merits the need to remove and reduce the impact of ceilings on mobility is critical.

In this Workshop, you will hear Dr. Boags outline an essential strategy for making the Leadership Pipeline more diverse by:

  1. Understanding and removing institutional barriers
  2. Providing Leadership Development Programs that build competencies for women and existing management

Through the examination of these factors you will be better able to understand and start the de-construction of the Ceilings in your own organization.
