2011 Inaugural Multicultural Summit

Nearly 50 years ago, a multicultural assembly of over 250,000 Americans instigated the now “Great” March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. We know from the many snap-shots of the movement that the group consisted of Jewish Rabbis, Catholic Priests, men, women, Blacks, Whites, Browns, gays, old, young, , poor, and wealthy protesters. The marchers seized the day, as they presented to the world the world what a truly united America looks like.

We Heart NY: The Empire State Approves Same-Sex Marriage

New York’s lesbian and gay community has reason to celebrate this summer. On the evening of Friday, June 24, 2011 the New York State Senate approved a bill legalizing same-sex marriages by a vote of 33 to 29. That same evening, shortly before midnight, New York State Governor, Andrew Cuomo, signed the bill into law making New York the sixth, and largest, state in the country to allow same-sex couples to marry.

 

 

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day - September 17

Constitution Day is celebrated annually on the 17th of September to commemorate the formation and signing of the Constitution of the United States on September 17, 1787. The Constitution details the organization of our government and the relationship between the federal government and its people. The original copy of the Constitution is housed in the National Archives Building in Washington, D.C. where it has been on display since 1952.

 

 

STEM Program in the Works

STEM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. To compete among the global workforce, American students need these subjects to advance and meet the future talent needs in a host of disciplines ranging from Biochemistry, Energy, Nuclear Physics, Computer Engineering, to the Geosciences.  Several students do not academically pursue these subjects because they seem rigorous and do not immediately attract students.  When compounded with the demographics of gender and race, there is a larger barrier for the diverse student population to pursue these academic disciplines and workforce professions...
